Song Reviews

When their Manager Julian Temple-Meads told Rockmungus that could review some classic rock songs with famous DJ Dave-Lee Travis, they were quite impressed; however, true to form Temple-Meads got confused and ended up employing Hospital radio has-been Dave-Lee Coldplay.

...........the guitar riff goes Da nana na na na na na dana na

In our first review, Dave-Lee Coldplay talks to Rich 'Stix' Wilcox about the classic Cream song 'Sunshine of Your Love.

Dave Lee Coldplay – So Stix, what song are we reviewing today?

Stix – Today Dave its gonna be the Cream classic, Sunshine Of Your Love.

DLC- Sorry great mate I don’t think I know that song.

Stix – You must, the guitar riff goes Da nana na na na na na dana na, and the opening line is Its getting near dawn and night closes its tired eyes. It was a big hit in about 1968.

DLC – I can’t say there was a great demand for Cream’s material on hospital radio in 1968. If I recall Congratulations by Sir Cliff Richard was very popular that year though. Anyway when did you first play this song?

Stix – We always included it in the set when I was touring Germany with my first band “Gregory Goosestep And The Nazi Nuns”. This song used to bring the house down.

DLC – And you obviously still love the song because I’m told you’ve always got a grin on your face whenever you play it.

Stix – No, I hate the bloody tune.

DLC – Why are you smiling then?

Stix - Well the song is based around the crack of dawn and it’s got something to do with Cream, the combination of those two things always puts a smile on my face.

DLC – Wise words great mate!

...........the guitar riff goes Dana nana nana nana dana na (again !!!)

Our second review hears DLC discuss Black Sabbath's classic 'Paranoid' with Andy Newey.

Dave Lee Coldplay – So Andy, what song are we reviewing today?

Andy – Today Dave its gonna be the Black Sabbath classic, Paranoid.

DLC- Sorry great mate I don’t think I know that song.

Andy – You must, the guitar riff goes Dana nana nana nana dana na, and the opening line is Finished with my women cause she couldn’t help me with my mind. It was a big hit in about 1970.

DLC – I can’t say there was a great demand for Black Sabbath on hospital radio. Added to which in 1970 I was working in a hospital with a psychiatric wing so we tried to avoid the subject of paranoia. Anyway when did you first play this song?

Andy – We always included it in the set in my first band, Cliff and The Helicoptor Rescue.

DLC – And you are still playing it now, it must be as popular as ever. At gigs do the crowd still shout out for this song?

Andy – At one gig some bloke in the crowd kept on shouting Paranoid, Paranoid. Our bass player Chris gave the fella a word of advice, Chris said “if you are paranoid don’t look behind you”. Then he realised the bloke looked like Quasi Modo. “On second thoughts” said Chris, “if you are Paranoid don’t look in the mirror”.

DLC – Wise words great mate!
