29th August 2008

Rockmungus played 'Troutfest' at The Trout Tavern, Keynsham, in what was a memorable night.

No Charities, no one off fund raisers, just good old fashioned noise and booze.........................

Chuff got us underway at 8-00 with a storming performance full of fun and energy and set the tone for the evening as The Cockpitz then followed with a charged up set of Punk classics. Rockmungus then went on last and played a quickfire set starting with American Idiot and finishing with Anarchy In The UK where they were enthusiastically joined by 'Brado' from The Cockpitz.

Our thanks to Chuff and The Cockpitz for a great night and special thanks to Martin Smith for doing the sound and of course Jim and Jackie for awarding us the privilage of playing such a great event.

Tour News

The long awaited dates for the 2008 leg of the Munters of Rock Tour have now been finalised.

Stix, drummer with Rockmungus said,” initially the tour was just for 2005 but further gigs were added throughout 2006 and 2007. We are really getting in our swing and all the gigs are going like clockwork, in fact during the last few gigs I have witnessed déjà vu on stage, at times it feels like I have already performed the songs at that venue before”.

We asked Doctor Von Rockenpoppen to comment on this phenomenon, he was unimpressed and had a simple explanation. “Stix is feeling this way because recent gigs have been repeat bookings and Rockmungus have already played at these venues in the past. I would not call it déjà vu I would call it memory, if only Stix could remember how to count to 4 that would be impressive.”!!!

Criticism has been directed towards Rockmungus in that although the Munters Of Rock is billed as a world tour all of the forthcoming gigs in 2008 are within a 30 mile radius of Bristol. Rockmungus manager, Julian Temple-Meads had this to say,” Oh yes to the untrained eye it might appear as if Rockmungus are just a Bristol based pub-rock band with illusions of grandeur rather than an internationally renowned rock group. Concentrating on playing venues in the west country is part of a marketing exercise called optimum market exposure (OME). With OME rather than playing a gig in a town or city and then move on the next night to another town or even country, you maximise your exposure in one particular area”. JTM is no stranger to this concept, whilst managing Bristolian progressive rockers Emersons, Green & Palmer for a period in 1985 JTM and the band spent over 6 months in Bangkok, Thailand. JTM adds,” at that time the band literally became residents at certain clubs, and on more than one occasion a certain type of exposure in these clubs lead to front page coverage with a number of tabloids”. We were unaware of prog rock being big in Thailand so we asked JTM the names of the music venues where these events had occurred, JTM replied” who said anything about the clubs in question being music venues”!!!!!!!
